3ld at la mama 2026
In May 2026 3LD Art & Technology will inhabit the Ellen Stewart Theater at La Mama Experimental Theater for 8 weeks. With the use of their flexible Mixed Reality BridgeSystem, 3LD will turn the theater into a 7500 square foot flexible immersive space.
The space will host two new immersive theater works by 3LD: Chuck Mee and Kevin Cunningham’s collaboration, Not Knowing. A related Late-Night Show co-created with the cast of Not Knowing will also be presented. During the day, 3LD will present two curated shows of Immersive and interactive art. Between these shows we will also host several 3LD Artists’ Training Workshops that will introduce artists from around the world to powerful affordable digital tools that will help them do more with less and increases their ability to produce exciting interdisciplinary works at expanding complexity, scale and quality.
3LD and La Mama Working Together
The funding and resource environment for independent artists in the United States has been declining for decades. Now there are new threats including increased censorship and loss of access to government and institutional funding, resources and facilities under pressure from political actors.
Given the rise of these oppressive forces, it is even more imperative now that we find new ways to provide resources for artists who are otherwise cut out of funding and access.
3LD and La Mama ETC’s creative communities overlap. We also share a mission to create a haven for underresourced artists to experiment with new work, without the pressures of commercial success and to create an environment free of censorship where artists of all backgrounds and identities can develop work that pushes the boundaries of what is possible.
